Apple pies right out of the oven, colourful fall leaves, beautiful handmade crafts on display and the sound of children laughing as they wander through a maze of corn. These are just a few of the wonderful images that come to mind when thinking about Sackville’s largest community event, the Sackville Fall Fair, scheduled to take place throughout the community September 18-21.

This year, our theme Celebrate our Cultural Harvest is due in part to Sackville being named a Cultural Capital of Canada. Thanks to the award, the organizing committee is promising a very exciting list of events featuring the arts, culture heritage and community spirit for which Sackville is renowned.

Some of the highlights over the weekend include on Friday, the Opening Ceremonies at 6pm, a Street Dance for Kids, 6:30-8:30pm, and thanks to Cultural Capital’s sponsorship a very special free concert featuring NL’s Hey Rosetta! all in the Bridge Street Tent. At 10pm be sure to come out to witness a Sackville tradition, the Shirt Tail Parade with locals dressing up as ghouls to march in the downtown to music – it’s light hearted, silly and lots of fun!

Saturday is jam packed with activities designed to bring out the kid in all of us including an Agricultural Field Day from 10am-5pm at the Doncaster’s Farm, 173 Main Street. Discover a Corn Maize, demonstrations of horseshoeing and threshing, u-pick pumpkins, an apple pie baking contest, petting zoo, pony rides and so much more. Don’t miss the Farmers Market & Community Sale on Bridge Street, 8:30am-noon, where you can pick up crafts, homemade baking and check out the booths of numerous community organizations. And of course, what would the Fair be without the Mile-Long Parade beginning at 1pm featuring a plethora of floats and marching bands?

The Tantramarsh Blues Society will be hosting the evening entertainment bringing in rising blues star, Matt Andersen and his band for a free evening of fun under the tent.

There are too many events to list being held during the Sackville Fall Fair, so be sure to visit our community during this wonderful weekend and join us in celebrating what Sackville has to offer. For more information on any event, contact Rebecca MacLean at 506-364-4957.
