The Town of Sackville is pleased to announce that Angela Thibodeau has been chosen as the 2022 Waterfowl Park Artist in Residence. She will be present at the Sackville Visitor Information Centre at 34 Mallard Dr Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 am to 2 pm during the month of June and the last week of July.
Angela’s residency will explore the waterfowl park during sunrise and sunset. “Especially at sunrise, birds and wildlife are most active in the park, yet few people are up early enough to experience it”, Angela said. “My goal is to show the park as both a vibrant ecosystem, and also a site where humans find peace and calmness.”
At dawn and dusk, Angela will make plein air sketches and take reference photos of the sky, trees, raccoons, birds, grasses, and other features. During the day, she will alternate between working on watercolour paintings at the VIC and oil paintings or printmaking in her home studio. By August, she will have a collection of at least 12-15 finished paintings and prints. During the month of June and the last week of July, Angela will be present at specific times in the Visitor Information Centre working on her watercolour paintings. Visitors are encouraged to watch her work and ask questions. She will also give away handmade artist trading cards as souvenirs for both tourists and local folk.
In addition, on Saturday August 6th, Angela will host a “Build a miniature model of the Waterfowl Park at sunrise” workshop for ages 9-13. Each student will paint a small sunrise, build a tiny boardwalk and add miniature trees, ducks, and other items to create a 3D waterfowl park diorama they can take home. People can register for this free workshop at www.sackville.com/programs. There will also be an Artist-Talk on Friday, August 12 at 7 pm. The 20-minute presentation will be followed by a reception and viewing of sketches and finished work at the Visitor Information Centre, 34 Mallard Dr.
Angela Thibodeau is known locally for her tranquil, Tantramar-inspired landscape paintings.
