Sackville Names New Town Engineer
Town Completes Hiring Process for Town Engineer Position
SACKVILLE, NB – The Town of Sackville has hired Jon Eppell as their new Town Engineer. Eppell will start his role next month on August 2, 2022.
Eppell brings over 30 years of experience in civil engineering to this position. Previous roles include Project Lead for the Big Lift in Halifax and most recently Operations Manager for the Municipality of Cumberland. During his career, Eppell led two teams that were awarded the Nova Scotia Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Engineering, one for the Macdonald Bridge Third Lane (2000) and one for the Macdonald Bridge Big Lift (2018). Eppell completed his engineering studies at Dalhousie University and TUNS.
“We’re very pleased to fill the Town Engineer position” said CAO Jamie Burke. “We couldn’t have asked for a more qualified candidate. Jon brings experience in municipal and transportation design, inspection, assessment and project management, and will be a great asset to our organization.”
Eppell moved to Sackville in 2009 with his wife, who teaches in Mount Allison’s psychology department. Hobbies include travel, reading, home renovations and spending time with family. He is father to three children and has two grandchildren. A former soccer player, Eppell coached part time and now enjoys watching the English Premier League.
When asked what he’s most looking forward to about his new role, Eppell responded “Working in the community I live in, helping the team do their jobs and be efficient, and continuing the good work that the Town is doing”.
Eppell replaces former Town Engineer, Dwayne “Action” Acton, who left the post in April after 15 years of service for a position in Mount Allison’s Facilities Management Department.
