Tantramar Names New Director of Financial Services (Treasurer)
SACKVILLE, NB – At a Special Meeting of Council held on Tuesday, April 25th, 2023, Council appointed Michael Beal as the Director of Financial Services (Treasurer) for the Municipality of Tantramar, effective immediately.
Beal held the position of Treasurer for the former Town of Sackville since 1999, and will reach his 30 years of service milestone in local government this year. Beal has a proven track record in public-sector finance. His leadership and financial management led to the fiscal health of the former Town of Sackville and will be relied upon during this transitional period and ongoing harmonization of services for Tantramar.

Under the new organizational structure for Tantramar that was announced in December 2022, Beal was originally assigned the position of Director of Corporate Compliance. Further details about the realignment of duties will be forthcoming and will be presented to staff and council over the next month.
With this appointment, Beal becomes the first Director of Financial Services (Treasurer) for Tantramar, a new entity that was formed after the provincially-led local governance reform mandates which were announced in November 2021. This involved the amalgamation of the two former governments of the Town of Sackville, and the Village of Dorchester combined with three former Local Service Districts (Sackville, Dorchester, and Point de Bute). Pursuant to the Local Governance Act Section 71(1) the Council of every local government is required to appoint a treasurer.
