The vibrant arts scene in Sackville shone even brighter on the evening of October 12, 2023, as we celebrated the expansion of the Sackville Arts Wall with the induction of three distinguished members. The evening was a testament to the rich tapestry of talent that our community is fortunate to have.
Janet Crawford, Marilyn Lerch, and Dan Steeves were the stars of the evening, each being recognized for their significant contributions to the arts. With their induction, the Arts Wall now proudly showcases the achievements of twenty-two remarkable individuals.
Janet Crawford, Arts Builder, has graced our community with her multifaceted artistic talents. From her musical performances that have become a staple at many Sackville events to her captivating mosaic artworks, Janet’s passion for the arts is evident. Her dedication to fostering artistic growth in our community is truly commendable.
Marilyn Lerch, Literary Arts, has enriched our community with her profound poetry. With six published collections and collaborations with renowned musicians, Marilyn’s words have resonated far and wide. Her tenure as the Town of Sackville Poet Laureate and her leadership in the Writers’ Federation of New Brunswick further highlight her commitment to the literary arts.
Dan Steeves, Visual Arts (print making), has showcased his artistry on both national and international platforms. A proud graduate of Mount Allison University, Dan’s work has graced galleries from Canada to Japan. His election to the Royal Canadian Academy for the Arts in 2011 stands as a testament to his unparalleled skill and dedication.
The evening, held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church Hall, culminated in the unveiling of this year’s plaques at the Arts Wall site on Main Street. Initiated in 2008, the Arts Wall serves as a beacon, celebrating those who have significantly contributed to the artistic and cultural fabric of Sackville.
