Tantramar Council Meeting Highlights – October 10, 2023
Hello, Tantramar residents! Below is an overview of the key decisions and discussions from our recent Regular Council Meeting last night, October 10, 2023:
- Renaissance Sackville Application: The motion regarding the transfer of $3,200 from the 2023 Operating Budget to Renaissance Sackville for an application from Protect Our Province has been postponed. This topic will be revisited for further discussions at the October Committee of the Whole Meeting, with a final decision anticipated in November.
- Public Presentations:
- Corrections Services Canada Citizen Advisory Committee: Susan Amos shed light on the pivotal role of Citizen Advisory Committees for the Dorchester Complex. An invitation is open to the mayor, councillors, and the public for an Awareness Day on November 7th, 9:30am-3:00pm at the Dorchester Complex.
- Sackville Farmer’s Market: Anthony Maddelena presented the market’s pressing need for a permanent location in Sackville. Sackville Farmer’s Market highlighted challenges faced during diverse weather conditions and sought the town’s commitment to establishing a dedicated structure for the market. The proposal also encompassed the formation of a committee to expedite this initiative.
- Pride Parade Street Closure: The motion to close York St from Salem to Main and Main St from York to Dufferin to accommodate the Pride Parade on October 14, 2023, has been carried. We’re eagerly anticipating the event and hope for sunny blue skies and rainbows!
- New Policies Approved:
- Safety Orientation Policy (2023-05)
- Hazardous Weather Policy (2023-06)
- The motion to adopt these vital policies has been carried, reinforcing our commitment to employee and our communities safety.
- Sidewalk Plow Replacement: The motion to acquire a new sidewalk plow for Tantramar has been carried. As a result, Sackville’s previous plow will be relocated to Dorchester to replace an older model. An exciting twist: We’ll soon be inviting suggestions from our community to name our new sidewalk plow. Stay tuned for more details!
