Tantramar Renews and Extends Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1188
SACKVILLE, NB – The Municipality of Tantramar is pleased to announce the renewal and extension of the collective agreement with CUPE Local 1188, representing a significant part of our workforce, including civic centre attendants, accounting clerks, heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and other essential municipal staff. This decision underscores the Municipality’s recognition of the hard work and dedication of its employees, especially during post-amalgamation challenges.
The current collective agreement, signed in 2022, was set to expire on December 31, 2024. Following a comprehensive wage review under the new Municipality structure, the proposed contract aligns with our commitment to fair compensation. This includes a 10.75% wage increase spread over four years, with the new agreement extending until December 31, 2027.
Mayor Andrew Black expressed his views on the agreement, saying, “This renewed agreement with CUPE Local 1188 is a testament to our appreciation for the hard work and resilience of our staff. In times like these, it’s more important than ever to acknowledge and reward the dedication of those who keep our Municipality running smoothly.”
Cory Johnson, President of CUPE Local 1188, says: “An offer was presented by the employer, we brought it to the membership, and we agreed on the 3-year extension of the labour peace”
CUPE Local 1188 has been an integral part of the Municipality since March 28, 1969, and currently represents 32 unionized employees. This renewed agreement reflects the Municipality’s commitment to fostering a supportive and fair work environment for all its employees.
