Last call! The “Revealing Chignecto: The Stories Within” traveling exhibit remains on display at the Sackville Visitor Information Centre, located at 34 Mallard Drive, until January 25, 2024.
Operating hours are as follows:
- Friday to Monday: Noon – 4 p.m. (exceptionally closed on January 13th)
This captivating exhibit delves into the rich tapestry of Chignecto’s history, exploring the profound connections of Mi’gmaw communities, Acadian villages, and 18th-century forts.
At the entrance of the exhibit, visitors can choose a historic Mi’kmaw or Acadian character with a direct link to the story, who will guide them as they explore the exhibit’s themes. Visitors find clues and statements from their character to help them build a narrative that encompasses the dramatic and tragic events of Chignecto, leading to the deportation of the Acadians and the displacement of the Mi’kmaw community. A great activity for learners of all ages!
The exhibit is the result of an extensive collaboration between Parks Canada, the Mi’kmawey Debert Cultural Centre of the Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq, in Nova Scotia, and Mi’gmawe’l Tplu’taqnn Inc. in New Brunswick.
