The Municipality of Tantramar are proud to celebrate the hard work and achievements of our summer student, Hannah Laidlaw, a Student Engineer who made significant contributions through the Culvert Asset Management Project during her time with us this summer.
Hannah’s Project Overview:
Hannah’s work focused on identifying and documenting over 225 culverts between Sackville and Dorchester. Her project included mapping precise locations, assessing the conditions, and determining the expected service life of each culvert. By incorporating GPS data and utilizing tools such as ArcGIS and AutoCAD, she was able to provide a detailed and thorough assessment of our infrastructure.
Hannah’s work is vital to our community’s infrastructure management. Her detailed analysis of the culverts allows the Municipality to prioritize repairs and replacements, ultimately saving costs and reducing the risk of emergencies. This project will also minimize environmental disruptions by allowing us to address potential issues before they become critical.
Key Achievements:
Successfully located and documented over 225 culverts.
Mapped exact coordinates and assessed the condition of each culvert.
Developed an actionable plan for future infrastructure management and preventative maintenance.
Successfully and confidently presented her work to council at the August 26, 2024 committee of the whole meeting.
We are incredibly proud of Hannah’s dedication, expertise, and the lasting impact her work will have on our community. Her efforts reflect the high standards and commitment to excellence we strive for within the Municipality of Tantramar.
Please join us in celebrating Hannah Laidlaw for her fantastic work and wishing her continued success in her engineering journey!
