Public Presentations
- Regional Service Commission Budget Presentation: S. Thorne presented the 2024 Regional Service Commission budget, providing insight into future services and infrastructure investments across the region.
- Public Hearing on Rezoning: L. Bickford presented the rezoning proposal for the Beale and Inch Property on York Street, Sackville. The proposal seeks to redesignate the land from Urban Residential 1 to Industrial/Business Park to accommodate an expansion of the vehicle maintenance shop.
- Municipal Roadshow Update: Chief Administrative Officer, Jennifer Borne provided an update on the Municipal Roadshow sessions held across Tantramar. The sessions saw great engagement, helping shape the upcoming strategic plan.
Council Discussions and Directions
- Text Amendment to Zoning By-Law: Council discussed a proposed text amendment to change height restrictions in the Sackville Downtown Business District. This would allow for taller buildings to encourage development, with a proposed increase from 50 to 75 feet. This would only impact the Sackville Zoning By-Law.
- Rezoning of 106 Fairfield Road: Freshwinds Eco-Village proposed the rezoning of this property to permit a co-operative housing project with 62 residential units. This project aligns with the need for more diverse housing options in Tantramar.
- Bulk Salt Purchase for Winter: The 2024/2025 bulk salt purchase was discussed, with a recommendation to move forward with Nutrien Salt for an efficient winter operations strategy.
- Commercial Waste Containers at Municipal Sites: Council reviewed a proposal for waste collection containers at various municipal sites, with a recommendation to award the contract to Miller Waste Systems.
- By-Law No. 2024-16 Business Improvement Area Levy: The discussion centered around the renewal of the Business Improvement Area (BIA) Levy, ensuring funding to support local business development.
- Quarry Park Bridge Project: The construction of a 30-foot bridge at Quarry Park was discussed, with Riley’s Renos recommended as the contractor for the job. This bridge will enhance the park’s accessibility and provide a scenic lookout over Bowser Brook. Active Living and Culture Director Matt Pryde has been doing an excellent job in acquiring funding and overseeing the success of this project. The upcoming construction of the Quarry Park Bridge marks a significant achievement in creating a naturalized park space that is accessible for all.
- Canada Community-Building Fund Agreement: Council is set to sign the new agreement with the provincial government, ensuring continued funding for key infrastructure projects under the Canada Community-Building Fund.
