Regular Council Meetings are where important decisions are made to guide our community’s development and future. Here’s a detailed snapshot of the key discussions and decisions from this meeting: 

Agenda 

Public and Administrative Presentations: 

  • Strategic Steps Inc. – Craig Pollett – Presented Tantramar’s Draft Strategic Plan, poised to shape the future of our municipality. The final version will be presented on March 24th at the Committee of the Whole Meeting. 
  • Dorchester Fire Hall Project Update – Andrew Amos of Catalyst Consulting EngineersShared the latest on Dorchester’s new fire station’s development while addressing current market challenges. This assists with our priority of the enhancement of Tantramar Fire Services.  

Consent Agenda:  

  • Approved various initiatives and agreements including:  
  • AIM Network’s Climate Resiliency for Coastal Communities 
  • Reappointment of a Sackville Arts Wall Member 
  • Kayak Rental Agreement 
  • Ice Cream Coop Usage Agreement 
  • Walk a Mile for Sarah’s Smile Road Closure 
  • SappyFest 2025 
  • Friday Night Cruise Street Closure 
  • Disposal of a 2007 Trackless Sidewalk Plow 

Reports from Administration: 

  • Dog Park Proposal – A motion to establish a new dog park was discussed but was ultimately defeated. 
  • Tantramar Veterans Memorial Civic Centre Dehumidifier – Approved the installation of a new dehumidifier, ensuring continued functionality and comfort. 

By-Laws: 

  • Code of Conduct By-Law for Tantramar (By-Law No. 2025-19): The updated Code of Conduct By-Law received first reading. Second and third reading will be brought forward at a future Regular Council Meeting. 

Mayor & Councillor Statements & Inquiries: 

  • Mayor Black: Celebrated local King Charles Coronation medal recipients (Joe Lafford, Jessica Novak, Robert Corkerton, Greg Martin, Doreen Richards) and congratulated former mayor of Moncton Dawn Arnold on being appointed to the Senate by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. 
  • Deputy Mayor Estabrooks: Praised municipal staff for their proactive efforts in addressing pothole repairs. 
  • Councillor Tower: Expressed gratitude towards staff for landscape maintenance on Walker Road. 
  • Councillor Goguen: Followed up about the use of the old visitor information centre in Aulac. 

Notice of Motion and Resolution: 

  • Councillor Debbie Wiggins-Colwell: Will be bringing forward a motion regarding encumbrance certificate fees. 
  • Councillor Josh Goguen: Will be bringing forward a motion with regards to Sappyfest 2025.
