Public and Administrative Presentations
Educational Workshop: Benefits of Salt Marshes: L. Vicaire presented upcoming public education initiatives about the ecological importance of salt marshes and their role in climate adaptation.
Quad NB & Tantramar ATV Club Presentation: V. Johnson presented on behalf of the local ATV club, proposing updates to the Municipal ATV By-law. The proposal includes expanding permitted road access for ATVs and requesting a formal letter of support from the Municipality.
Consent Agenda
Council approved the following requests:
- Little League Shed Installation
- Poet Laureate Term Renewal & Terms of Reference
- Bee City Designation – This designation reflects Tantramar’s commitment to pollinator health and biodiversity.
Reports from Administration
By-Law Student Enforcement Officers: Council authorized duties under the act, which allows summer by-law officers to issue tickets for summer 2025. Having 3 additional by-law officers will add significant coverage for Tantramar and if any resident has a by-law issue or question, please call (506) 540-1722 to speak with a by-law officer.
2024 Audit: Council approved the 2024 Municipal Audit.
Dorchester Fire Station Tender Awarded: Council awarded the contract for the construction of a new fire station in Dorchester. This project includes disposal of the existing building. This is a major milestone for fire safety in Tantramar!
Ford Lane Waterline Realignment: Council approved two motions to allow the realignment of municipal water and sewer services if needed to meet clearance standards for development.
Banner Policy Reviews: Two proposed policies – the general Pole Banner Policy and the TVMCC Banner Policy – were deferred to a future Committee of the Whole meeting for further review.
By-Laws
Zoning By-Law Amendment – Vertically Attached Dwellings
Council passed a motion to begin public engagement on a proposed Sackville Zoning By-Law amendment concerning minimum lot size and frontage for vertically attached dwellings.
Mayor & Councillor Statements and Inquiries
- Councillor Wiggins-Colwell raised several Dorchester-related inquiries, including an update on former Dorchester Municipal office, flowerpots, the clock in the square, and Shep plaque replacement. She also praised the Shepody IODE’s recent fashion show.
- Councillor Tower commended Freshwinds for their recent presentation on cooperative housing.
- Deputy Mayor Estabrooks celebrated the approval of the Dorchester Fire Station and thanked Poet Laureate Laura for her contributions.
- Councillor Hicks requested a formal update on Peck’s Cove Bridge; Mayor Black shared an update from MLA Megan Mitton.
- Mayor Andrew Black applauded Tantramar Regional High School for raising over $65,000 during the Dragon Boat Festival. A tremendous community achievement!
Notice of Motion
Councillor Wiggins-Colwell submitted a Notice of Motion relating to an RV dump station in Tantramar.
