Celebration of Town of Sackville’s Accreditation as a Wetland City & 75 years of Wildlife Conservation in Sackville
November 19, 2022You are invited to celebrate the Town of Sackville’s recent accreditation as a Wetland City and 75 years of wildlife conservation in Sackville!
The Town of Sackville is pleased to invite the public to an event celebrating the Town’s recent accreditation as a Wetland City by the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. Sackville is the first town in
North America to achieve this prestigious designation! At the same time, we wish to acknowledge an important milestone in our town, the 75th anniversary of the Canadian Wildlife Service! The Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS) of Environment and Climate Change Canada is responsible for the conservation of migratory birds, the recovery of species at risk, and the protection of nationally important habitats.
CWS has had a presence in Sackville, NB since Nov 1, 1947 when the then Dominion Wildlife Service opened its first field office in the Maritimes, in Sackville. There are now over 40 CWS employees in Sackville, where the office is perched on the edge of the Sackville Waterfowl Park, one of many important wetlands that have helped Sackville obtain its Wetland City Accreditation! Join us as we celebrate these joint achievements!
An event featuring short talks, unveiling of artworks and certificates, refreshments, waterfowl park tours by CWS staff and partners, and other activities will be held on Saturday, November 19 at 2 pm at the Sackville Visitor Information Centre at 34 Mallard Drive. Attendance is free and registration is not required. For more information contact visitor@sackville.com
