Chignecto Naturalists’ Club – Mushroom field tripSeptember 24, 2016
The first field trip of the season is to identify Mushrooms this Saturday, 24 September. In case of inclement weather the trip will be rescheduled at the same time on Sunday. If necessary, a decision to postpone will be made and notice given by Friday evening. (Please check your emails Friday evening.)
WHERE: meet at the entrance to the Beech Hill Park, Walker Road (map attached).
WHAT: View and identify mushrooms in the Walker Road area with Armand Robichaud, Raymonde Chartier and Roland Chiasson.
WHEN: meet at 9:30 on Saturday, 24 September for a half day trip. If weather is unsuitable it will be rescheduled for 25 Sept.
BRING: sturdy foot gear, snacks, drinking water, appropriate clothing*, note pad and pencil, binoculars if desired.
*Saturday is the last day of Moose hunting season. Although the reservoir is not an area of heavy moose hunting, it is suggested if you own any hunter orange clothing, to bring it for extra protection.
Armand also recommends: Participants can bring a paper bag or a basket (no plastic containers) and a pocket knife or a small paring knife and a small brush (to brush dirt off mushrooms). For those that have mushrooms field guides please bring them. If anybody collects mushrooms before the field trip they could possibly be identified before heading out on the trail.
He also recommends that participants may wish to read the small booklet called Mushrooms of Toronto, by the City of Toronto. Available for free online in PDF format : https://www1.toronto.ca/City%20Of%20Toronto/City%20Planning/Environment/Files/pdf/B/Mushrooms%20of%20Toronto.pdf
