Chignecto Naturalists’ Club – The annual Cape Jourimain and Cape Tormentine Field TripNovember 23, 2019
The club’s annual Cape Jourimain and Cape Tormentine field trip is scheduled for Sunday, November 24, 2019.
Details as follows:
WHAT: Andrew Macfarlane will lead participants to see sea birds and land birds at Cape Jourimain and around the old ferry landing at Cape Tormentine. In other years we’ve observed red-throated loons, cormorants, sandpipers and sea ducks such as black and surf scoters, long-tailed ducks and common eiders as well as a good variety of land and forest birds.
WHERE: There are three options for meeting and car pooling:
1. In the parking lot behind the Sackville Post office at 8 AM for a 8:15 departure.
2. At the Port Elgin traffic circle at 8:40 for 8:45 departure.
3. At the Cape Jourimain Nature Centre parking lot at 9 AM.
WHO: Everyone is welcome, member of the Chignecto Naturalists’ Club or not.
BRING: This trip can extend into the afternoon, so bring a lunch.
It can be cool and windy at the water’s edge during November so layers of warm clothing are recommended, including a hat and gloves. Sturdy, waterproof footwear is a good idea. Bring binoculars, and a scope if you have one. You may wish to carry a field guide or electronic apps.
DIFFICULTY: This trip is classified as “easy,” with a total of about two kilometers
of walking on level ground.
INFORMATION: For more information contact Andrew at 506-536-4922 or Bruce at 506-536-4108.
