Concerts in the Park Series

Join us in the Bill Johnstone Memorial Park every Thursday evening in July and August to enjoy some great live music put on by a wide variety of local musicians in a showcase of some true Maritime talent! Admission is free. Concerts begin at 6:30pm and end at 8:00pm. Visit www.sackville.com for more details.

July 5th: Junior Jills

The Junior Jills consist of 5 fiddlers and 1 piano player, ranging in age from 12-16. Going into their 4th year of performing as a group, they have performed at various local fundraisers, Sackville Fall Fair, and the Super Fiddle Show in Riverview NB, where they received a standing ovation for their performance. They perform primarily Canadian Old Time Fiddle Music, remaining true to their down east roots, while also making sure that their crowd is well entertained by the familiar tunes we have all come to love. They will be releasing their first recording in the summer of 2018.

July 13th: Sackville Strummers

The Sackville Strummers is made up of individuals from the community that wanted to pick up their ukuleles and jam with other people. The group came together about two years ago and they have been strumming ever since. If you would like to join the Strummers, they meet every Friday from 1:30-3:00pm at the Bill Johnstone Activity Centre.

July 19th: Del Wheaton and Friends

July 26th: Bill Drysdale

Bill considers himself a self-taught musician of roughly 45 years with a wonderful love of Country and Gospel music. Bill has written several of his own songs and has had one CD released to date, with another one possibly on the way this summer.

August 2nd: Elastic Big Band

The Elastic Big Band is a nineteen-piece jazz band centered in Parrsboro, Nova Scotia.  The band consists of professional and casual players from Halifax, Truro, Amherst, Springhill, Parrsboro and Sackville, NB. The band plays music from the Big Band era as well as some more contemporary dance tunes for community events and dances in Parrsboro, Sackville and Amherst.

August 9th: Sackville Citizens Band

The Sackville Citizens Band, founded in 1902, has been a mainstay of the community music scene for 116 of the 151 years since confederation. Throughout all those years, including the turmoil of the war years, there has never been an interruption of service to the community. The band plays a wide range of musical styles and will certainly connect in some way with every member of an audience.

August 16th: Lise Blakney

You can find Lise singing at the Drew Nursing Home, here in Sackville, every second Friday afternoon. She also sings every Thursday evening at the Open Mic and on occasion at Duncan’s Pub in Amherst, NS.

August 23rd: Heather Stone and Margaret Fillmore

Mother daughter duo, Margaret Fillmore and Heather Stone have been singing together for many years. They enjoy having different musicians from the community join in for backup music and singing. Together they have released three CD’s. Classic Country is their favorite music to play and sing.

 August 30th: Bus 41

In the winter of 2017, a group of three guys; Larry Landry, Acquila Bourgeois and Bob Nelson; started meeting once a week in the basement for a “jam session”.

A few months later they decided to take their act above ground and now appear at the occasional “open mic event”. Their goal: Play music, sing and have fun.
