Inside the Ivory Tower – Sharing Our Research in a Lunch & LearnMarch 1, 2017
Jonathan Wilbiks, McCain Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Psychology, “How Music Shapes the Brain” (NOTE DIFFERENT DATE)
Whether it is background music in a store, attending a concert, or engaging in music-making, music is a ubiquitous factor in our lives. The ways in which we engage with music throughout our lives affect our relationship with music, and also affect the development of our brain in terms of music and other functions. Research into the psychology of music focuses on outlining some of these effects, which can occur early or late in life. This talk will outline some research in this domain, including the effects of musical training on memory and on selective attention, as well as the negative effects of a lack of musical experience on long term musical ability.
