March 25, 2020CANCELLED DUE TO ONGOING HEALTH CONCERNS

Dr. Emily Austen, Department of Biology
During the early sunny days of spring, after snow has melted but before the canopy above has leafed out, the forest floors of Eastern North America are graced with a short-lived display of colourful (and sometimes unusual!) flowers, all buzzing with the first insect life of the season. Take the time to greet the spring ephemerals this year with a virtual walk through a forest in full bloom, and along the way, learn about the fascinating strategies these plants use to succeed in their time-limited environment.
Emily Austen is an Assistant Professor in Biology at Mount Allison University whose research specializes in interactions between plants and their environment. She’s particularly fascinated by the clever adaptations plants use to coerce insects into assisting with pollination, protection, and seed dispersal. There are few things Emily enjoys more than a romp through the spring forest to after a long winter.
