MAKER MAKER: Magic Shrink Plastic with Vanessa BlackierJanuary 23, 2019
Join us for our first MAKER MAKER workshop of 2019 and discover the magic of shrink plastic with Sackville artist, Vanessa Blackier.
At this workshop, participants will learn tips and tricks for working with shrink plastic, aka “Shrinky Dink”. We’ll have everything you’ll need to get started—shrink film, Sharpies, and scissors. Draw and cut out your designs and pop them into our portable toaster ovens and watch in amazement as your creations shrink to half their original size. Turn your tiny plastic creations into charms, pendants, pins or even, as Vanessa has done, miniature plant pot ornaments.
Vanessa Blackier is an interdisciplinary artist and crafter who works in photography, embroidery and shrink plastic. Her creations are often colourful and playful and are inspired by vintage designs, music, pop culture and all things kitschy and fun. Vanessa maintains and Etsy shop under the name of BaeofFundy where she sells shrink plastic, embroidered and handmade accessories.
MAKER MAKER is a monthly program of seriously small after-hours art workshops. Led by diverse Maker Mentors, each workshop introduces a pocket-sized art project that can be made in two hours or less. Designed for accomplished and aspiring makers alike, MAKER MAKER is for anyone interested in making small things by hand with friends and fellow makers. This informal workshop series explores how working small can be practical, portable and playful, economical, sharable and even wearable.
MAKER MAKER is free and all materials are provided, no registration required.
Mark your calendars for upcoming MAKER MAKER workshops on February 27 and March 27.
