Opera unfolds within a hierarchical and oftentimes rigid structural apparatus that leaves musicians grappling with how to reshape current paradigms and methodologies of opera creation. In this Independent Student Research Project, generously funded by the J.E.A. Crake Foundation, Emma Yee employs a research–creation methodology to explore and identify ways of granting agency to singers within opera rehearsals that upend and re-imagine traditional practices.
