MtA Music Faculty and Guest Recital: The End of the BeginningSeptember 13
Three of New Brunswick’s finest classical musicians will explore music from the end of the 20th Century, all of which is designed to evoke imagery in the listener’s mind. Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla’s music brings to mind a 1930s Tango nightclub. Finland’s Kaija Saariaho’s piece evokes crystal images of a starry night. Canadian composer W L Altman’s work is about the insistent flowing energy of the Miramichi river. Japan’s Toru Takemitsu’s colourful piece “Toward the Sea” reflects his experience as a film composer. The final work, by Canada’s Gilles Tremblay, moves from the radiance of daybreak to quiet meditation, inspired by the poetry of St. John of the Cross.
The performers are Music faculty members Joël Cormier, percussion and Karin Aurell, flutes, joined by Andrew Reed Miller, double bass.
Tickets are $15 adults/$10 seniors and students/$30 family. Series subscriptions are also available. Free admission for current Mount Allison students with a valid ID card.
