MtA Music Online: Sor Juana and the SilencesJanuary 27
A concert-length program for the voice alone by Helen Pridmore, using text by the brilliant 17th-century nun, writer, and early feminist Sor Juana Inès de la Cruz. Sor Juana and the Silences explores ideas on women’s rights, along with musings on love, philosophy, and the need for creative space.
The performance will be streamed free of charge on Zoom, Wednesday January 27, 4:00 pm AST – contact the Department of Music if you wish to join the meeting. A short question and answer session will take place after the recital.
A related event will take place on Friday, January 29, 3:30pm AST on Zoom: The Philosopher Nun – A Roundtable Discussion of Sor Juana Inès de la Cruz. Leslie Kern (Women’s and Gender Studies) and Jane Dryden (Philosophy) will join Helen Pridmore for a roundtable discussion of the themes and ideas arising from her Sor Juana presentation, as well as the remarkable life of Sor Juana herself.
