Presently Engaged: Social Sciences Discussions

November 18, 2016

The social sciences are those areas of inquiry directed at understanding human interaction through empirical research. The goal of the new Social Sciences Discussion Series is to explore how faculty in social sciences at Mount Allison experience their connection to contemporary issues as researchers and as teachers who are informed by their disciplinary backgrounds as well as by their membership as citizens in a broader community.

Each informal roundtable talk will focus on a theme. Two or three faculty members will speak informally (10 minutes each, no technology) on the issue of the day from their unique perspective. Then we’ll open the floor for a lively exchange of ideas with participants from different social science departments and visitors. Topics this year will be:

November 18, 2016, 3:30 pm: Police brutality
January TBA, 3:30 pm: Reconciliation

March 10, 2017, 3:30 pm: Youth mental health

April 7, 2017, 3:30 pm: Climate change

The event is free of charge and in Avard Dixon, room 117.
