SACKVILLE, NB – The Mayors of Sackville, Dorchester, Memramcook and Port Elgin met on July 14, 2021 to discuss issues impacting their municipalities.

The main items on the agenda were health care reform and local governance reform. These issues affect the region as a whole and the mayors were able to share information and resources. Given the success of the first meeting, the group plans to meet quarterly to engage on regional issues and work together. Chief Rebecca Knockwood of Fort Folly First Nation was unable to attend the opening meeting, but the mayors look forward to her joining in future discussions.

β€œThis is a great opportunity for our four municipalities and Fort Folly First Nation to communicate, coordinate and collaborate on issues that impact all of us.” Said Mayor Shawn Mesheau (Sackville). β€œI look forward to working with Mayor Wiggins-Colwell (Dorchester), Mayor Bourgeois (Memramcook) and Mayor Stokes (Port Elgin) on an ongoing basis.”

The group is looking forward to working together for the benefit of the region and will continue to follow the health care and local government reform processes very closely. Future discussions will also cover topics such as tourism.
