UMNB Advocacy Days 2025: The Mayor and CAO will attend the Union of Municipalities of New Brunswick (UMNB) Advocacy Days in March to represent Tantramar. They will report back on discussions and key takeaways.
Council Discussions and Directions
The following items were reviewed by Council and sent to the consent agenda for approval at the next Regular Council Meeting:
Climate Resiliency for Coastal Communities: Council reviewed an initiative through the AIM Network that supports climate adaptation strategies for coastal municipalities.
Arts Wall Board Member Renewal: Council discussed the renewal of a board member for the Tantramar Arts Wall, which recognizes outstanding contributions to the local arts scene.
Kayak Rental Agreement: A proposal to continue offering kayak, canoe, and paddleboard rentals at Lillas Fawcett Park for the 2025 season was reviewed.
Ice Cream Coop Usage Agreement: Council discussed renewing the Ice Cream Coop’s agreement to operate at Bill Johnstone Memorial Park during the summer.
Walk a Mile for Sarah’s Smile 2025 – Street Closure: Council reviewed a request for staggered street closures to accommodate this annual community fundraiser for the Sackville Food Bank, an important event to help address food insecurity in Tantramar.
SappyFest 2025: Requests for in-kind support and street closures were discussed to help organize this year’s 20th anniversary of SappyFest.
Friday Night Cruise – Street Closure: Council considered a request to close Main Street to accommodate the annual classic car show and cruise night.
Municipal Fleet Upgrades – RFP Reviews
Council reviewed two Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for municipal vehicle and equipment upgrades, including:
- 4×4 ¾ Ton Crew Cab Utility Truck
- 6×4 Plow Truck
Additionally, through the public procurement process, the municipality is acquiring:
- An additional 4×4 ¾ Ton Crew Cab Truck
Council also reviewed the disposal of the 2007 Trackless Sidewalk Plow as part of ongoing fleet management.
These updates ensure that municipal operations remain efficient and well-equipped to meet the needs of the community.
Dog Park Fencing
Council discussed a new off-leash dog park along Dufferin Street. This item will be moved to administration reports at the next Regular Council Meeting.
By-Law No. 2025-19 – Code of Conduct for Council
A proposed Code of Conduct By-Law was reviewed to align with new provincial regulations. First reading will take place at the next Regular Council Meeting.
Town vs. Gown Hockey Rivalry
The annual Town vs. Gown hockey rivalry is now tied at four games each, with the Town securing a win in the most recent matchup. The game continues to be a great community tradition, bringing together residents and Mount Allison students for some friendly, competitive spirit on the ice.
