Municipal Street Lighting Review

Tantramar Regional High School Grade 12 student Kenish Patel presented a detailed analysis on the need for additional streetlights in rural Tantramar. We’d like to thank him for all his hard work and thoughtful contribution—great job, Kenish!

UMNB Advocacy Days Report
Mayor Andrew Black, along with Councillors Martin and Phinney, shared highlights from UMNB Advocacy Days in Fredericton, where they met with government officials to discuss key municipal issues such as fiscal reform, housing, and healthcare. Click here for more information about UMNB.

Council Discussions and Directions

The following items were discussed and forwarded to the consent agenda for the upcoming Regular Council Meeting:

  • Council Summer Meeting Schedule
    Council will consider pausing the July Committee of the Whole and August Regular Council Meetings, with regular meetings resuming in late August. The September Regular Council Meeting is proposed to move to Monday, September 8, 2025.
  • Code of Conduct By-Law
    Council discussed proposed updates to the Code of Conduct By-Law for Members of Council. Council will consider second and third reading of the updated code of conduct by-law for Tantramar.
  • Asphalt Resurfacing Tender
    Council will consider awarding the 2025 asphalt resurfacing contract to Dexter Construction Company Limited, focusing on King Street, the salt shed entrance, and trail improvements near Main and Lansdowne.
  • Wildfire Pump Purchase – Dorchester Fire Department
    Council reviewed a proposal to purchase a wildfire pump to better prepare for the possibility of a wildfire. The item has been moved forward for approval.
  • Animal Control Services Contracts
    Council discussed awarding two contracts for animal control services: PAWS/SPCA for the former Dorchester and local service districts, and Jaime Spicer for the former Sackville area.
  • Emergency Mutual Aid Agreement
    Council reviewed the draft Emergency Mutual Aid Agreement. The item will return for further discussion at a future Regular Council Meeting.
  • Freshwinds Eco-Village Housing Co-operative
    Council will send a letter of support to assist Freshwinds Eco-Village Housing Co-operative in securing funding for their cooperative housing development.
